Pet Shipping to South Africa

  

REQUIREMENTS FOR CATS TO SOUTH AFRICA 

 

 1)      You will need to obtain an export permit from DEFRA which will be sent to your vet 10 days prior to export.  You will need to use an LVI vet (local veterinary inspector) most vet practices have at least one. 

2)      You will also need to obtain an import permit from the Director of Animal Health Pretoria, South Africa. Tel: 0027 1231 97514 (there may be a charge). 

3)      Cats must be microchipped and rabies vaccinated 

4)      We recommend that all annual vaccinations are kept up-to-date. 

5)      You will need to complete an owners written declaration that the pet(s) has been resident of the united kingdom for at least the last 6 months or since birth. if imported from another country we need a declaration of country & dates of when imported. 

6)      Final vet checks within 10 days of export – treat for internal & external parasites and complete the export health certificate. 

7)      Deliver the cat on the day of departure with original import & export permits, copies of vaccinations.     

REQUIREMENTS FOR DOGS TO SOUTH AFRICA 

 

 1)      Export permit from DEFRA which will be sent to your vet 10 days prior to export. 

2)      Import permit from the Director of Animal Health Pretoria, South Africa. Tel: 0027 1231 97514 (there may be a charge). 

3)      Dogs must be microchipped and rabies vaccinated.  If the dog has not been vaccinated against rabies then he/she will be vaccinated on arrival in South Africa. 

4)      If the dog has been in Great Britain since birth he/she must be tested for leishmaniosis within 30 days of export (blood to be sent to CVL Labs for the test). 

If the dog has been outside of the UK at all since birth he/she will need blood tests for leishmaniosis, dirofilaria & babesiosis all within 30 days of export (blood to go to VLA laboratories) the dog must also be treated for dirofilaria for 6 months after arrival in South Africa. (this treatment needs to be taken from the UK) 

5)      Tests need to be taken by an LVI vet (local veterinary inspector) most vet practices have at least one. 

6)      Final vet checks within 5 days of pet travel – treat for internal & external parasites and complete the export health certificate. 

7)      Deliver the dog on the day of departure with original import & export permits, copies of vaccinations & copies of blood test results.
