Turtle trip to Scotland
JCS Livestock were recently involved with the transport of another Green Turtle between Sea Life Centres in the UK.
Further to our trip two weeks ago to help with moving sea turtles from Florida to Weymouth here in the UK, last week JCS Livestock moved a sea turtle from Weymouth up to Loch Lomond. The Giant Green Sea Turtle is the first sea turtle to feature in any Scottish aquarium. Staff at the Sea Life Centre in Loch Lomond have been undergoing training to care for turtles and the Centre is now in a position to care for turtles that are occasionally washed up on Scottish shores.
The trip took around 10 hours from Weymouth to Loch Lomond, during which the turtle was checked on several occasions to ensure that there was no chance of dehydration. A member of staff from the Sea Life Centre travelled with us up to Scotland. The transfer of turtles around the globe not only gives the public a great opportunity to see these prehistoric animals so recently made famous in cartoons but also to educate people of the plight of these endangered species. Turtles risk extinction as a result of human activities affecting them ranging from being caught in fishing nets to the disruption of their nesting beaches.
